On April 13, 2018 combined U.S., French and British forces launched precision strikes against chemical weapons capabilities in Syria to deter Syrian leader Bashar Assad from using banned chemical weapons. Shortly after, Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis and Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, held a live press brief from the Pentagon announcing the attack.
On April 14, 2018 Dana W. White, ATSD/PA and Lt. Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie, Director, The Joint Staff, provided results of the mission during a live briefing from the Pentagon.
Both events were streamed live from the Department of Defense social media platforms, which resulted in significantly positive reception by the media and the general public.
