Advanced preparation is essential to handling an internal crisis with skill and compassion—especially when that crisis occurs after hours. This session will present adaptive lessons learned from two active weapon situations at a large academic medical center, the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing.
This session will focus on how creating a consistent communications plan and toolkit can streamline crisis response and allow communications tools to be implemented easily on various platforms by cross-collaborative response teams and divisions. In addition to exploring methods to increase employee buy-in for emergency preparedness after an incident occurs.
Following this discussion, you’ll gain a deeper understanding on how to prepare for a crisis within your organization, including:
- The academic theories and principles that make crisis communications work in a way that mitigate employee stress
- Messaging approaches to provide communication while remaining compassionate
- Core components to include in your crisis toolkit that can be implemented after hours and remotely
- Creating a scalable timeline for immediate response, crisis management, and disaster resiliency
- The use of crisis incidents to address employee engagement and encourage ongoing conversations regarding future events
