Workshop B: How to Help Invisible Victims of a Crisis: Crafting the Right Messages and Reaching the Right Audiences Long After Media Coverage Ends - led by Alley 424 Communications

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

From personal experience of living through, and surviving, the Boston Marathon bombing hears first-hand about the after-effects mass violence causes and how to reach those affected.

This workshop will address how to reach “invisible” victims of mass violence who may not have been hurt physically but may develop mental health issues such as anxiety and post-traumatic stress weeks, months or even years later and long after the media has stopped covering the event.

Understand the emotional and psychological issues some survivors may experience following a mass tragedy and how your organization can address these needs, including:

  • Knowing the different types of victims and being able to address them
  • Understanding your audiences
  • Crafting the right messages
  • Communicating about available support resources after a mass tragedy
  • Identifying what resources are important to recovery, including support groups, hotlines, websites, radio/tv, etc.
  • Having a plan in place to address all victims
